Milso Owned Small Business: The Learning Room
Updated: Feb 17, 2021
Hi friends!
Am I the only one scrambling to prep for Christmas? I have most presents bought, but I'm still very unsettled since we aren’t traveling that I’m forgetting things. Also, I have absolutely no menu planned for Christmas day… snacks are fine, right?
But since school is on a break and I feel like I can take a breath again, it’s time to showcase another great milso business – called The Learning Room, owned by Jessica Bradley.
Jessica’s love story is so cute, y’all. She met her husband in FOURTH GRADE! WHAT? How cool is that? She said that they had been friends since childhood, and that falling in love with him was the easiest thing she’s ever done. (Okay, are they not the cutest?) She recalls the transition in their relationship, “I was walking to the library on our college campus, and he cat-called me (knowing it would get a very heated response), and when I turned around to tell him where he could stick it, there he was with the goofiest grin. I melted.” The rest was history. Her husband joined the Navy after graduating in 2013 and they got married in 2014.

Since then, the military life has kept them on their toes. Jessica stayed behind to finish the school year teaching second and then joined him in San Diego. She said that first year was the hardest, moving away from friends and family and leaving behind everything she knew. The military kept moving their family around, and once they moved to Guam, Jessica was ready to start something for herself. She had just become a new mom and truly missed her teaching job that she had for four years in Florida.
Jessica jumped on an opportunity to be a tutor when it presented itself. A year after accepting the position, she was fully booked and helping people through tutoring in ways she never thought of! She loves having time to do all the things she always wanted to do in her classroom but couldn’t. She says, “I am taking learners from being anxious about a particular subject or school in general to being confident in themselves and their abilities.” She quickly realized that she spent quite a bit of time driving around to her tutoring jobs, and decided to move her services online (perfect timing, am I right?). Moving tutoring online also allows her to continue working with her clients even when it comes time to move!

The Learning Room offers individual tutoring for math, reading, science, and homeschooling for $65/hour (compared to $200/hr for similar services, it’s a steal!)
